You've read the magazine articles and heard people raving about all of the fantastic, healthy benefits that practicing yoga has to offer. You've tossed around the possibility of getting started and have finally decided to give it a try, after all, what could it hurt? You may even find that all of that talk, all of the brew-ba-ha about what a positive change yoga has made and continues to make in peoples lives, is true! BUT! How do I get started? What should I expect once I choose a studio, choose a class, put on my comfy clothes, grab my keys and head out the door? It can all feel a bit overwhelming and we completely understand that and would like to help to alleviate that with some tips that will make your first visits much less complicated.

Before Class

What to Wear: Wear comfortable "stretchy" clothes that are not too loose.

Bring with You: Water and a yoga mat, if you have one. We have yoga mats at the studio for you to borrow, so no worries if you don't have one.

Arrive Early: If it's your first time at OmBodies Yoga Studio, please arrive 10-15 minutes early. This will give you the time you need to fill out any forms, talk to the teacher, change your clothes if needed, and get settled in.

Eating/Drinking: Try to allow yourself 2 hours after eating before practicing yoga. Drinking plenty of water before your yoga practice is highly recommended however, you can drink water as often as you need throughout your practice.

Once You Arrive at OmBodies

Footwear: Please remove your shoes, leaving them in the hallway outside of the asana room.

Valuables: If you choose to bring valuables into the studio, please do not leave them in the hallway. We recommend leaving valuables in your car but we do have cubbies inside of the asana room where you can store them if you choose to. Please be sure upon leaving the studio that you collect all of your belongings.

Electronic Devices: Please turn your cell phone off during class. If you do need to have your cell phone on during class, please turn it on vibrate so as not to disturb other students.

Entering the Room: Please enter the asana room quietly. If you're running late for class, it's okay, we've all been there! Enter the asana room as quietly as possible then take a few moments in child's pose before beginning your practice.

Communicate: If you have any injuries or health concerns, please talk to the teacher about them before class begins so they can help to keep you safe throughout your yoga practice.

During Class

Take Child's Pose: If at any point throughout the class you feel tired or fatigued, please fell free to rest in child's pose, even if the teacher doesn't specifically mention it. Once you've rested, re-join the class.

Leaving Class Early: Please plan to stay for the entire yoga class. If this is not possible, please let your teacher know before class begins, and take a short Savasana before you leave. As you prepare to leave class, please be mindful of the other students, quietly returning your props and collecting your belongings before leaving the studio.

Savasana: Savasana is the last pose taken at the end of a yoga class and is an important part of preparing to move on with the rest of the day. Please allow yourself time for a full Savasana, the teacher will end class after this pose.

After Class

Return Props: If you borrowed a mat from the studio, wipe it down and return it to the stack of loaner mats. If you used props, please return them to their designated areas.

Collect Belongings: Please be sure to collect all of your belongings before leaving the studio. Please double check that all of the belongings you collect are your own and that you're not accidentally grabbing someone else's keys, shoes, bag, etc.

Teachers: OmBodies Yoga Teachers are available to you! If you have any questions or concerns, please talk to your teacher after class. Our teachers are available to you and happy to answer your questions and address your concerns.

Congratulations on beginning your yoga practice!
